Twin Cities Picture Book Salon!

It’s a FREE community gathering of picture book writers of all levels who want to support one another’s new endeavors and generate energy around picture book writing in the Twin Cities.  Let’s gather to mix and mingle, keep each other up-to-date with news and announcements, share resources, discuss issues relevant to modern picture book writing.

Bring your self and your enthusiasm for picture book writing, and, if you want, your book, business cards, flyers, brochures, etc.  Please pass this invitation on to others who you think might be interested–my contact list is far from complete!  Find our facebook group here.

At our June Salon, Barbara DaCosta will talk with us about Adaptation– the art of building on others’ work to make old stories new. All writing is, in some way, adaptation. But why and how do we create a story built on someone else’s work? How do we address themes, style, and audience? Are there requirements or legal restrictions? Barbara DaCosta will share the process of creating Mighty Moby from Moby Dick, and show examples of how other people have adapted the classic novel. There will be time for discussion and questions, and an adaptation activity!

Barbara DaCosta’s Mighty Moby will be released August 2017. Her first book, Nighttime Ninja, received the Children’s Choice Award. Both are illustrated by Caldecott Medalist Ed Young and published by Little, Brown. http://www.barbaradacosta.wordpress.com/

*Salon has been moved to the third floor in 2017.

PLEASE NOTE: THERE WILL BE NO SALON IN JULY. Our next meeting will take place August 7th.
