Twin Cities Picture Book Salon!

It’s a FREE community gathering of picture book writers of all levels who want to support one another’s new endeavors and generate energy around picture book writing in the Twin Cities.  Let’s gather to mix and mingle, keep each other up-to-date with news and announcements, share resources, discuss issues relevant to modern picture book writing.

Bring your self and your enthusiasm for picture book writing, and, if you want, your book, business cards, flyers, brochures, etc.  Please pass this invitation on to others who you think might be interested–my contact list is far from complete!  Find our facebook group here.

“The Amazing Idea of Play”

At our June Salon, picture book author Charlotte Sullivan Wild will celebrate the essential role of play in our creative practice. She’ll share how a playful class with author Stephanie Watson inspired her debut picture book, THE AMAZING IDEA OF YOU (illustrated by Mary Lundquist, Bloomsbury 2019). Play can help us to not only generate new material but also problem solve and deepen our work.

Next, roll up your sleeves for serious play time! Mess with old projects in new ways. Create new material that might grow into something… amazing! You’ll learn techniques that use words and lines, pictures and glue–whatever it takes to play your way into new inspiration and insight into your work! You’ll leave with new activities to carry into your creative practice.

The Picture Book Salon meets on the first Monday of each month, in the large classroom on the –>second floor<– of Open Book (room 203), 7-8:30pm. Suggested donation $5 helps cover snacks, drinks, supplies, and promotion.

Please note: We don’t have a Salon in July because of the holiday week. We will gather again on August 5th with speaker Kao Kalia Yang.
